Day 8 – Camp is Over!

After a wonderful week with 31 kids and half a dozen French helpers, our English Camp came to a close at 11:30 this morning. To cap things off, we put on a final “show” for the children’s parents complete with cheers, skits and songs that were learned throughout the week. It was awesome!

The final meeting was followed by many tearful goodbyes. It was a blessing to see children that were shy and withdrawn at the beginning of the week hugging our team and singing “Jesus loves me” as they left. The kids seem to have had a great time, and really didn’t want to leave. God really blessed our week with the kids.

Day 7 – Last Full Day of Kids Camp

Today is the last full day of camp for the kids. We’ll be focusing today on the story of the prodigal son and will be reinforcing the other spiritual truths that we’ve been teaching the Children throughout the week.

As the week winds down, it’s a huge blessing to hear the kids singing songs about Jesus and teaching each other the hand motions at the dinner table. Despite the language barrier, we’ve had many opportunities to connect with the kids and just love on them throughout the week.

Mountaintop Worship

As I mentioned earlier today, we had the opportunity to worship on top of the mountain last night with our kids at camp! The kids are really starting to learn the words and get into the music with our team every day; check out the video after the break for an awesome clip of our worship time together.

Don’t miss the ridiculously beautiful surroundings… Our camp overlooks a quaint French town!

Day 6 – The Hike

Yesterday was wonderful! In the evening, we ate a special flambé meal that was cooked over a real wood fire (a delicacy that can only be found in this part of France!). After dinner, we headed up to a nearby hill for sunset where we sang worship songs with the children and talked extensively about Jesus. The children were attentive the whole time and were really excited to learn about Jesus.

Day 5 – Talking about Jesus

Yesterday was the first full day of camp, and things went great. The kids are starting to memorize the English words to the worship songs that we’re singing, and it’s fun to hear them walking around singing “I’m Adopted” and “Give Me a J!”

Today, we’ll be talking about Jesus in depth for the first time; although the children seem to know many Bible stories and understand who God is, we’re unsure that they understand who Jesus is and what His sacrifice means for us.

During a transition time, Marti & Randy Riggins, Amy Brodrick and a few others led the children in “Head, Shoulders, Knees & Toes”. Watch the video below.

Day 4 – Camp Off to a Great Start!

The first full day of camp went great! The kids are having a lot of fun and are really eager to talk with their new American friends. It’s a learning experience both ways as the children as teaching us French nearly as much as we’re teaching them English.

Last night we began our teaching time with the story of Moses (focusing on leadership and going God’s way instead of your own). The children listened well through the interpreter, and excitedly repeated the parts of the story that they already knew.

After a few days of getting settled in and preparing for the camp, our children finally arrive this afternoon. Everyone’s excited!

Before everyone gets here, I thought it would be fun to mention some interesting observations about France so far. Also, be sure to check out the prayer requests at the bottom of this post.
